Happy New Year

Yes, year end reviews are a dime a dozen, and I am about to add to the mix. Please give me a moment of your time because this newsletter is sent to people who have supported me, believed in me, invested in me, and humored me. That means You.

You are an amazing group of individuals. Thank you.

2025 marked the beginning of The Experience Collective LLC, the formal acknowledgement of my offerings of journals, workshops, retreats, and salons. Additionally, The Experience Collective is a place to post reflections, remembrances, and revelations. My intention is that The Experience Collective page on the website continues to grow as a place where class participants share their work whether it be the written word, visual arts, or multi-media.

Storytelling is powerful. It reminds me of the joke I used in the Learning to Swim Series video intro-

Old fish greeting the young fish: Hey there, how’s the water?

Young fish in response: Water? (What is he talking about?)

Storytelling is our water. Stories are the ways in which we connect, we learn, we share…This past year of work has felt like a homecoming. Returning to this space of highlighting stories whether it is the stories we tell ourselves, those we have inherited or acquired over time, or the stories we choose to share with others. Stories teach us, illuminate universal truths, and even provide hope.

Please reach out to me with comments, suggestions, submissions, and more. I look forward to connecting, sharing, and learning in the coming year.

Wishing you a very happy new year.

xx,

Kristan

Word for 2026

A recent encounter reminded me of the practice I used to do-pick a word for the year. A word to inspire me and remind me of what I wanted more in the year ahead. My word this year is Play. I would like to try things out for the sake of doing something without too much pressure about the outcome. I want to remind myself not to let my hobbies to become work.

Childhood Experiences, Spiritual Narratives and Hope

Childhood Experiences, Spiritual Narratives and Hope

The shortest days invite reflection. Kristan Swan shares how a childhood of contrasts sparked curiosity about identity, control, and creative freedom. Through a spiritual autobiography, uncover patterns, resilience, and purpose, and learn to define spirit, hope, and prayer on your own terms.

Recipe to Welcome a New Baby on 12/27/96

in anticipation of the birth of my second child who was due after Christmas in 1997, inspired this reflection written as a recipe or life instructions. I was excited and nervous because I wasn’t sure if I had enough love in my heart for this new child. My heart had broken open with the birth of my first baby.
